Compress a video. Keep it sharp.

Shrink a clip for Discord, WhatsApp or email in your browser. Quality first, no upload, no size limit.

How do I compress a video for free without losing quality?

Drop the video into Cutmallow's free compressor above and keep the High quality preset. It re-encodes the video with your browser's own encoder at a bitrate that looks like the original, keeps the resolution, frame rate and sound, and saves a smaller MP4. To hit a limit such as Discord's 10 MB, choose Fit a size instead. Nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark.

How to use it

  1. Drop a video, or tap to pick one.

  2. Keep a quality preset (High, Balanced or Smallest), or choose Fit a size and type the size you need.

  3. Tap Compress video and save the MP4. On a phone, the share sheet offers Save Video.

How it works

The compressor reads your video on your device a piece at a time, so even very large files work, and re-encodes it with your browser’s own video encoder: H.264 everywhere, HEVC or AV1 when your device has them.

Keep quality picks a bitrate that looks like the original for the chosen preset, never more than the original spends. Fit a size works backwards from the size you type: it sets aside room for the sound and gives the rest to the video.

The original resolution and frame rate stay unless you lower them, and the sound is copied as is when an MP4 can carry it. Your video never leaves your device. The compressed file is written to your device’s private storage and saved from there.

Tips for a better result

  • Trim the clip first: a shorter video keeps more detail at the same size.
  • For a size limit, aim a little under it, like 9 MB for a 10 MB limit.
  • If the file must play everywhere, keep H.264.

Turn it into a Short

Cutmallow's free editor finishes the job. After compressing, tap Edit in Cutmallow and your file opens there, still on your device.

  • Cuts the pauses and filler words
  • Writes animated word-by-word captions
  • Exports a 9:16 MP4 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok

How do I compress a video for Discord?

Drop the video, choose Fit a size and tap the 10 MB · Discord chip. The compressor picks the bitrate that lands just under the limit and saves an MP4 you can attach straight away.

Will compressing make my video blurry?

Keep quality mode picks a bitrate that looks like the original, so most clips look the same at a fraction of the size. A tight size target on a long clip lowers the quality, and you can also lower the resolution to keep it sharper.

Should I pick H.264, HEVC or AV1?

H.264 plays on every phone, computer and website, so it is the default. HEVC and AV1 make smaller files at the same quality, but some older devices and sites cannot play them. They only show up when your device can encode them.

Can I lower the resolution or the frame rate?

Yes. Pick a smaller resolution (from 2160p down to 480p on the short side) or a lower frame rate (60, 30 or 24). Both leave more bits for each frame, so a small file looks cleaner.

Is there a file size limit?

No. The file is read from your device in pieces, so very large videos work. The only limit is free storage space on your device for the result.

Is my video uploaded to compress it?

No. Your video never leaves your device. Your browser's own video encoder does the work and the result is saved from your device.
