Resize video for Instagram.
Make any clip 9:16 for Reels, or 4:5 and 1:1 for the feed. Crop it to fill or fit the whole frame, on your device.
How do I resize a video for Instagram for free?
Drop the video into Cutmallow's free resizer above and pick a shape: 9:16 (1080 × 1920) for Reels and Stories, or 4:5 (1080 × 1350) and 1:1 (1080 × 1080) for the feed. Choose Crop to fill the frame from the middle of the video, or Fit to show all of it over a blurred copy or a solid color. A preview shows the result first. Your browser then re-encodes it to an H.264 MP4, with no upload and no watermark.

How to use it
Drop a video, or tap to pick one.

Tap Resize video and save the MP4. On a phone, the share sheet offers Save Video.
How it works
Instagram shows Reels and Stories at 9:16 and feed posts at 4:5 or 1:1. A video in another shape gets cropped by the app or shrinks into a small box, so resizing it yourself decides what stays in the frame.
Crop takes the largest area with the new shape from the middle of each frame and scales it to 1080 pixels wide. Fit scales the whole frame until it fits and paints the space around it: a blurred, slightly zoomed and darkened copy of the same frame, or a solid color. The preview on this page is drawn by the same code that draws every frame of the video.
Every frame is then re-encoded to H.264 by your browser’s built-in video encoder, through Mediabunny, an open-source media library, in a background thread. AAC sound is copied over untouched. Your video never leaves your device.
Tips for a better result
- Talking to camera? Crop keeps your face big. Check the preview in case you sit off center.
- Fit with blurred bars suits landscape clips you want to show whole, like a wide scene or a screen recording.
- In a Reel, keep text and faces out of the bottom fifth: the caption and buttons sit there.
Turn it into a Short
Cutmallow's free editor finishes the job. After resizing, tap Edit in Cutmallow and your MP4 opens there, still on your device.
- Cuts the pauses and filler words
- Writes animated word-by-word captions
- Exports a 9:16 MP4 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok

Frequently asked questions

What size is an Instagram Reel?
1080 × 1920 pixels, a 9:16 vertical frame. Stories use the same size. Feed posts can be 4:5 (1080 × 1350) or 1:1 (1080 × 1080).
How do I crop a video to 9:16?
Pick 9:16 and Crop to fill, then tap Resize video. The middle of the video fills the frame and the sides are cut off. To move the crop or follow a face, open the result in the editor with Edit in Cutmallow.
How do I post a landscape video on Instagram without cropping it?
Pick Fit whole video. The full picture sits in the middle, with a blurred copy of it above and below, or a solid color you choose.
Will resizing lower the quality?
The video is re-encoded once, at a bitrate that stays clean at 1080 wide (about 7.5 Mbps for a 30 fps Reel). Smaller videos are scaled up to 1080 wide, which cannot add detail that was not there.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video never leaves your device. The file is opened and processed by your own browser, and the result is saved straight from your device.
Is there a file size or length limit?
No. The file is read from your device a piece at a time and the result is written to the browser’s private storage, so long and very large videos work. The only limit is free space on your device.
