How do I remove the background from a video for free?
Open the video in Cutmallow's free editor, go to Look and set Background to Remove. A person-segmentation model finds you in every frame on your own device, and you choose what goes behind you: a color, a blur of the real room, a photo or another video. How to do it in three steps

How it works
Remove uses MediaPipe Selfie Segmentation, a small open-source model that marks which pixels belong to a person, run on every frame in your browser. Turn on Finer hair edges and Cutmallow uses MODNet, a portrait-matting model, for cleaner hair at the cost of a slower export.
Green screen works differently: you tap the backdrop on the preview, and that color is keyed out with an adjustable tolerance and spill removal, which is the sharpest option when you filmed against a plain backdrop.
Tips for a better result
- Light yourself evenly and keep the background a little darker than you: edges come out cleaner.
- Use a blur of the real room for a natural look, or a solid color for a clean studio feel.
- Filmed on a green or blue wall? Green screen gives the sharpest edges.

Do I need a green screen?
No. Remove finds the person in each frame by itself. A green screen still gives the sharpest edges if you have one, and Green screen mode handles that case.
What can I put behind me?
A solid color, a blur of the original background, a photo or another video clip from your device.
Does it work with more than one person?
It works best with one person in frame, which is how most Shorts and Reels are filmed.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in Safari on iPhone and in Chrome on Android, as well as Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on computers. An older phone takes longer, because your own device does the work.
