Remove the audio. Keep the video.
Mute any video in seconds: the sound track is taken out, the picture stays exactly as it was. Nothing uploaded.
How do I remove audio from a video for free?
Drop the video into Cutmallow's free tool above. It copies the video track into a new file and leaves the sound out, without re-encoding anything, so it takes seconds and the picture is identical. The file keeps its format: an MP4 stays an MP4 and a MOV stays a MOV. It all runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there's no watermark.

How to use it
Drop a video, or tap to pick one.
Wait a few seconds while the video is copied without its sound.
Save the silent video. On a phone, the share sheet offers Save Video.
How it works
A video file stores the picture and the sound as separate tracks. To mute it, the tool reads the encoded video packets and writes them into a new file of the same kind, and simply never writes the sound track. Nothing is decoded or re-encoded, so the quality cannot change and it takes seconds even for a long video.
It needs no video encoder, so it works in any modern browser, on phones as well as computers. It is built on Mediabunny, an open-source media library, running in a background thread of the page. Your video never leaves your device.
Only the main video track is kept: extra sound tracks, subtitles and other side tracks are left out too, so the result is a plain silent video.
Tips for a better result
- Want music instead? Open the silent video in the editor and add a track there.
- To keep your voice and lose only the hum, use the background noise remover instead.
- Muting shrinks a file only a little. Compress it to make it much smaller.
Turn it into a Short
Cutmallow's free editor finishes the job. After muting, tap Edit in Cutmallow and your silent video opens there, still on your device.
- Cuts the pauses and filler words
- Writes animated word-by-word captions
- Exports a 9:16 MP4 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok

How do I mute a video on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, tap the drop box and choose the video from Photos or Files. A few seconds later tap Save video: the share sheet offers Save Video, which puts the silent copy in Photos next to the original.
Does removing the audio lower the video quality?
No. The video is copied exactly as recorded, frame for frame, and only the sound track is left out.
Can I remove only the background noise instead?
Yes, with the free background noise remover, which cleans hum and room noise out of your voice and keeps the speech. To replace the sound with music, open the editor.
Will the video file get smaller?
A little: by the size of the sound track, typically about 1 to 2 MB per minute of video. To make it much smaller, use the free video compressor.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your video never leaves your device. The file is opened and processed by your own browser, and the result is saved straight from your device.
