How do I remove silence from a video for free?

Open the video in Cutmallow's free online editor and tap Cut pauses. A speech-detection model finds every gap between your sentences, even with a fan or music behind it, and trims them in one go at the pace you pick: Natural, Tight or Fast. Each cut stays on the timeline so you can undo it. Then export a 9:16 MP4 with no watermark. Nothing is uploaded.

How to do it in three steps

  1. Drop your video into the editor. It opens on your device, nothing is uploaded.

  2. Tap Cut pauses. Pick a pace (Natural, Tight or Fast) and every gap is trimmed in one go.

  3. Export a 9:16 MP4 for Shorts, Reels or TikTok.

Then keep going in the same place: add captions, zooms and a style, so the Short is finished before you leave the page.

How it works

A plain volume check cannot tell a pause from a quiet word, so Cutmallow uses Silero VAD, a small open-source speech-detection model, to mark where you are actually talking. It runs in your browser in a few seconds per minute of video, and a quick loudness pass shows a first result while it loads.

The editor then removes the gaps longer than your chosen pace, keeping a short breath before and after each sentence so cuts sound natural instead of clipped. The video is never re-recorded: the cuts are an edit list, which is why each one can be undone.

Tips for a better result

  • Start with Natural. Switch to Tight or Fast for punchy Shorts once you hear the rhythm.
  • Cut pauses first, then add captions: the captions follow the cuts automatically.
  • Leave a deliberate dramatic pause by restoring that one cut on the timeline.

One flow instead of three apps

Every free tool here opens the same Cutmallow editor, so the whole Short gets finished in one place.

  • Pauses, noise and captions in one editor, instead of a different app for each job.
  • Private: the video is processed on your device and never uploaded.
  • Works on phones as well as laptops, in the browser you already have.
  • No credits, no usage limits, no watermark.

Frequently asked questions

Something else? Write to [email protected].

How does it find the silences?

It listens for speech, not just quiet, so a pause with a fan or music behind it still counts as a pause. You choose how much breathing room to keep.

Can I undo a cut I did not want?

Yes. Every cut shows on the timeline, and undo brings it back. Nothing is changed in your original file.

How long can my video be?

Up to 15 minutes. Most Shorts and Reels are well under that, so you can drop a whole take and keep the best part.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It runs in Safari on iPhone and in Chrome on Android, as well as Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on computers. An older phone takes longer, because your own device does the work.

Will my video be uploaded?

No. Your video never leaves your device. The editor page blocks connections to other servers.

Is there a watermark or a paid plan for this?

No. The export is clean, in full quality, with no account. Cutmallow runs on your device, so there are no server bills to pass on.
