MOV to MP4, in seconds.

Turn an iPhone, Mac or camera MOV into an MP4 that uploads anywhere. Same quality, nothing uploaded.

How do I convert MOV to MP4 for free?

Drop the MOV into Cutmallow's free converter above. It copies the video and sound into a new MP4 file without re-encoding them, so it takes seconds and the quality is exactly the same. Sound an MP4 can't hold, such as uncompressed PCM, is converted to AAC. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded, there's no watermark and no size limit.

How to use it

  1. Drop a MOV (or tap to pick one from Photos or Files).

  2. Wait a few seconds while it is copied into an MP4.

  3. Save the MP4. On a phone, the share sheet offers Save Video.

How it works

A MOV and an MP4 are two kinds of container: boxes that hold the same video and sound streams. An iPhone or a Mac records H.264 or HEVC video with AAC sound in a MOV, and an MP4 can hold exactly those streams. So the converter does not decode and re-encode anything. It reads the encoded video and sound packets from the MOV and writes them into a new MP4, with the same timing, rotation and frame rate.

That is why it is fast and lossless, and why it works in any modern browser: it needs no video encoder at all. It is built on Mediabunny, an open-source media library, running in a background thread of the page. Your video never leaves your device.

A few MOV files carry streams an MP4 should not hold, like the uncompressed PCM sound some cameras and screen recorders write. Those streams are re-encoded (sound to AAC at 192 kbps, video to H.264) and the result screen says so. ProRes video cannot be decoded by browsers, so ProRes MOVs are not supported.

Tips for a better result

  • On iPhone, tap the drop box and pick the video straight from Photos.
  • If a site rejects HEVC, run the MP4 through the compressor with the H.264 format.
  • ProRes MOVs from cameras do not open in browsers. Export H.264 or HEVC from the camera app first.

Turn it into a Short

Cutmallow's free editor finishes the job. After converting, tap Edit in Cutmallow and your MP4 opens there, still on your device.

  • Cuts the pauses and filler words
  • Writes animated word-by-word captions
  • Exports a 9:16 MP4 for Shorts, Reels and TikTok

How do I convert a MOV to MP4 on iPhone?

Open this page in Safari, tap the drop box and choose the video from Photos or Files. A few seconds later tap Save MP4: the share sheet offers Save Video (back to Photos) or Save to Files. No app or account is needed.

Does converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?

No. The video and sound are copied into the MP4 exactly as they were recorded, so every frame is identical. Only sound or video an MP4 cannot carry is re-encoded, and the result screen tells you when that happens.

My iPhone video is HEVC. Will the MP4 play everywhere?

iPhones record HEVC (High Efficiency) by default, and the converter keeps it as HEVC. Current phones, Macs and most Windows PCs play it. If an older device or a website refuses it, run the MP4 through the free video compressor with the H.264 format, which plays everywhere.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Your video never leaves your device. The file is opened and processed by your own browser, and the result is saved straight from your device.

Is there a file size or length limit?

No. The file is read from your device a piece at a time and the result is written to the browser’s private storage, so long and very large videos work. The only limit is free space on your device.
